Message from UWOAA President Paul Nelson
It was great to see many of you at Thesis Day in March. The feedback on Pacific Tower was very positive and we look forward to returning next year. The presentations by the residents were impressive and the UWOAA was proud to have assisted in funding of their research projects. Another purpose of the UWOAA is to enhance the educational experience of the residents. To that end, we were able to secure pledges of over $200,000 from department alumni over the next four years. Combined with matching funds from the University of Washington, this will complete funding for the Kokich-Shapiro Professorship by 2019/2020 and will allow funding of a part-time faculty position.
In the fall, our focus will turn to the Moore-Reidel Endowed Chair. It is currently funded at 1.15 million and we will need another $350,000 in pledges to fully fund the chair. The historical generosity of our alumni has been remarkable and a key ingredient in the success of the department. Please note that the PCSO in October will be held in Seattle. Details regarding our alumni reception will be forthcoming and it would be great to have a big turnout. The alumni board represents each of you and we welcome your input. Please feel free to contact me or any member of the board if you have ideas or suggestions.
Thanks again for your continued support!
Paul Nelson (’95)
